Penglipuran Village & Tree Planting

Penglipuran Village & Tree Planting

Half day · Penglipuran Traditional Village, Bangli, Bali · Easy, flat village lanes and garden work

Walk one of Bali's most carefully kept traditional villages with residents, then plant trees together at the Sekar Anugrah garden and take a seedling home.

Short answer

We quote each Penglipuran booking individually, because the price depends on group size, season and what you add. What we can say plainly is what the price covers: an English-speaking village host, village entry and the community contribution, tree planting materials, a seedling to take home, and a traditional Balinese lunch with drinking water. Share your dates and headcount and we reply within one to two working days.

Why don't we publish a single price?

A half day for two people and a half day for forty colleagues cost very different amounts to run, and averaging them would mislead both. So we quote per booking, based on three things: how many of you there are, when you are coming, and whether you want anything added, such as a CSR donation or facility-support component for the village.

The quote comes from us directly, written in Bali, usually within one to two working days. If a number matters for your planning, the fastest route is to send your dates and headcount through the form on the tour page.

What does the price actually include?

On our Penglipuran Village & Tree Planting programme, the price covers the parts that make the visit work as more than a walk-through:

  • A local village host and English-speaking guide, so the lane is explained by someone who lives with its rules
  • Village entry and the community contribution, paid on your behalf rather than collected from you at the gate
  • Tree planting materials and a seedling to take home, with care instructions
  • A traditional Balinese lunch and drinking water

It does not include flights, travel insurance, personal expenses and tips, or alcoholic drinks.

Where does the lunch fit into the day?

Lunch comes at the end. The half day starts with a welcome at the village entrance and an orientation to Penglipuran's layout and customs, then a guided walk along the main lane and compounds. From there the group moves to the Sekar Anugrah garden to learn about growing media, planting and care technique, and plants together. Everyone pots a seedling to take home.

The Balinese meal closes the day, with time for questions. For most people it is the point where the morning's observations turn into conversation, which is worth more than it sounds.

Is it better value than visiting on your own?

If you only want to see the main lane, going on your own costs less. That is a fair choice, and our guide on whether Penglipuran is worth visiting is honest about who it suits.

What the programme adds is context and participation. A resident explains why the compounds look the way they do and who decides. The planting session is run with the Sekar Anugrah garden, which handles ongoing care and monitoring of what groups plant, so it is not a one-day photo activity. Some of what you pay goes to a village that keeps its lane in order through its own governance, a model we explain in what 'preserved village' actually means in Bali.

How do group size and add-ons change the quote?

Group size is flexible, from small groups to large teams. Larger groups need more coordination, more planting materials and more seedlings, and that shows in the quote. Adding a CSR or community-support component, matched to what the village actually needs at the time of your visit, also changes it.

The parts that stay fixed are the ones above: a resident host, the village contribution, planting with follow-up care, and lunch.

What should you send us to get an accurate quote?

Four details let us quote properly the first time:

  1. Your preferred dates, and whether they are flexible
  2. How many people, and roughly how many children if any
  3. Whether you want the tree planting, which most groups do
  4. Any dietary needs for lunch

If you are a company or school, mention whether you would like a CSR component. We will tell you what the village currently needs rather than suggesting a generic donation.

Is this right for you?

Good for

  • Travellers who want the village entry and contribution handled properly
  • Groups who want lunch and an activity, not just a walk
  • Companies planning a half day with a community component

Not for

  • Anyone looking for the cheapest possible way to see the main lane
  • People who want a fixed online price and instant booking

Frequently asked questions

Is lunch always included in the Penglipuran tour?

Yes. A traditional Balinese lunch and drinking water are part of every booking of our Penglipuran Village & Tree Planting programme. It comes at the end of the half day, after the village walk and the planting session. Tell us about dietary needs when you enquire so the host can prepare.

Do I pay the village entrance separately?

No. Village entry and the community contribution are included in our price and paid on your behalf. You do not need to carry cash for the gate. Personal spending, tips and anything you buy from residents along the lane are not included.

How quickly will I get a price?

We reply personally from Bali, usually within one to two working days. Sending your dates, headcount and any extras in the first message means the quote can be accurate straight away rather than going back and forth.

Can we skip the tree planting to make it cheaper?

Ask us. The village walk and lunch can be run without the planting session, and the quote will reflect that. Most guests keep it, because planting with the Sekar Anugrah garden is the part that turns a visit into something you did with the village.

Is there a price difference for children?

Quotes depend on your group, so mention how many children are coming and we will price accordingly. The activity level is easy, with flat village lanes and light garden work, so children usually take part in everything including potting their own seedling.
