Cooking Class

Bali · Approx. 3 hours

Cooking Class

From garden to open kitchen: fresh ingredients, traditional spice pastes, and a meal you cook yourself.

Duration

Approx. 3 hours

Group size

Up to 15 participants per class

Activity level

Easy, short walk plus standing kitchen work

Location

Open kitchen & foraging garden, Bali

About this experience

A day designed to be understood, not just visited.

The class opens with an easy trek through the foraging area so participants can see and handle the fresh produce and spices they are about to cook with.

Back in the open kitchen, a local cook guides the group through traditional Balinese dishes, starting with the base gede spice paste that anchors most of them.

Groups larger than 15 run in parallel classes so everyone actually gets to cook rather than watch.

What to expect

The day, step by step

  1. Easy trek & ingredient walk

A short walk in the foraging area to meet the vegetables, herbs, and spices used in the class.

  2. Spice paste session

Grind and build the traditional base paste with the local cook, learning the ratios by feel.

  3. Cook together

Prepare a set of traditional Balinese dishes in the open kitchen, hands-on throughout.

  4. Eat together

Sit down to the meal you cooked, with time for questions and recipe notes.

Sustainability impact

A short, honest supply chain

Ingredients come from the surrounding gardens and local markets, so the class runs on what is actually in season rather than an imported fixed menu.

Kitchen organics are composted on site, and the class avoids single-use packaging entirely.

Any program can be combined with a CSR or community-support component, matched to what the host village actually needs at the time of your visit.
